“My contract ends when?”, “July 17th”, the guy replies.
“So, what can I do to cancel? Do I need to give an advanced notice?”, “No you just call us and in 2 days we’ll terminate the service.”, the guy says.
“Are you sure? That’s not how it normally goes…”, “Positive”, he says.
Today:
“Hi, I want to cancel my service.”
“You can send us an email, fax or letter, WITH 30 DAYS NOTICE”!!!
“What?!? That’s not what your tech support said a month ago…”
“Then my colleague gave you a wrong information…”
Fuckers, I already have a Netcabo VoIP modem (for the telephone service). So if I request to cancel TODAY, the service will be canceled August 31st!!! They will be sorry, though. Netcabo will activate my service today. The Claranet ADSL will be running a dedicated BitTorrent service 24/7 till the end of the contract (I have no monthly bandwidth )…
You can just call up any day you want and cancel it. doesnt have to be 30 days notice at all lol. They dont really mind, its just you sometimes have to speak to people new to the company who dont know shit.
Yeah, that’s not going to help now. It’s probably a good thing. it gives me more time with Internet access if something goes wrong with setting up Netcabo.
It looks like you are reffering to the portugal arm of Clara. I must point out that the whole of the company is not like that. My advice would be to push the point that you were told 30 days previously that no notice was required and that they should take the previous conversation as the notice date, as i’m sure thats what you would have done at the time if you knew.
You didnt say whether you did or not but in future when talking to anybody on the phone like that its always a good idea to get the name of who you spoke to on which date as it always strengthens your case. Plus makes that person accountable.
I must point out this is my personal view and not the company’s.
I’ll probably call the tech support again to see if I get another response.
Nevertheless, the cancelation order was already given. I don’t want to stay with Claranet simply because I’m paying €50 for 2Mbps without monthly bandwidth. With Netcabo, the same service (with 8Mbps) costs €42.

The only thing worth going for is Claranet UK, as the company is way overpriced. but the UK call centre is the best in the world!
